Jesus tries to maintain his sanity in prison. He tries not to think of Laura, his wife. Memories of good and bad times with her keep invading his thoughts. He pushes thoughts of Laura out by imagining good times with other women, namely Luba and Tonantzín. Towards the end of the story something happens within the prison that changes Jesus’ perspective. It ends with him seeming to find some peace with his thoughts of Laura.
There's a two page sequence that I particularly liked which consists of two 9 panel grid pages. There are no words. The first page retells the story of how he wound up in prison. Part of this tale was originally told in The Laughing Sun. The second page summarizes events since he arrived in prison.
This story was was unexpectedly moving. It brought tears to my eyes. I’m pretty sure that’s the first time for one of the stories in this collection.
