This is the first of twelve stories in what Carl Horak, author of the Terry and the Pirates Companion, considers to be the fourth era of Caniff’s run on the strip. This era begins in late Jan 1942 and ran through early Nov 1945 and is called The War Years in the companion book.

The six sidekicks go to see the Luther Alazar, the head of the studio. Alazar’s assistant won’t let them in so Terry breaks down the door to Alazar’s office. Alazar is there with the three big guys who previously warned them about investigating the death of Trigger Keaton.

Alazar owns up to the fact that he is the one responsible for the murder of Trigger Keaton. He seems very nonchalant about it until Brannigan reveals that he taped Alazar’s confession. A fight breaks out as the three musclemen attempt to take the tape recorder by force. The sidekicks come out on top in the end but not without bruises of their own.

Chapter 5

Paul, Tad, Richard, Allison, and Miles investigate a text that Miles receives from Terry. They walk into a warehouse on the lot and find themselves surrounded by stuntmen. Lazlo Wells, the leader of the stuntmen, orders his people to attack the five actors. A huge fight breaks out.

Terry is with the stuntmen but when he joins the fight it is on the side of his fellow sidekicks. Paul turns out to be much better in a fight than he previously seemed to be. The fight ends when Terry defeats Lazlo Wells and claims leadership of the stuntmen. The issue ends with Brannigan declaring that he knows who killed Trigger Keaton.

Mar 30-Apr 1, 1942 - Pat and Normandie talk while Merrily takes a nap. Normandie has figured out what Pat did to her husband. She is still devoted to caring for Tony even though he is a heel. She sees right through Pat’s attempt to win her back.
