Jesús arrived in the United States by swimming across the border, when he was young, with his parents. He grew up and eventually followed in his father’s footsteps and worked in a slaughterhouse because without the proper documentation he couldn’t get any other job.

He is very good at his job but he seems to sleepwalk through his days. He gets married. He and his wife have a daughter. His supervisor sends him to see the staff psychologist. She asks him lots of questions but in the end she thinks it is safe to send him back to work.

El Águila breaks into Cross Technological Enterprises (CTE) but Hawkeye spots him coming a mile away. The two fight. Hawkeye wins and is ready to turn him over to the police but Ambrose Connors, Hawkeye’s boss at CTE, insists on showing Hawkeye what it is that El Águila was looking to steal. El Águila sees an opportunity and uses it to overpower Hawkeye and Connors and destroy the device.

The surprise guest turns out to be the KGB. Wallace and Karpin are about to get arrested when Don Weldon shows up, mows down a couple of KGB agents with his car, and escapes with Wallace and Crocker. Weldon has to drop them off somewhere else in Prague, along the river, and return the car which is in Barclay’s name.

The KGB questions Barclay and Weldon, the latter of whom buys Wallace and Karpin some time by lying. Wallace and Karpin make it to the Austrian border. Wallace makes it home safely but Karpin is shot and killed while trying to crawl through the fence.

Mockingbird explains that the men were from SHIELD but doesn’t take the time to explain what she’s up to before ditching the wallcrawling superhero.

Crocker meets with Don Weldon (at that time the number two man in Prague) who explains the plan to him for extracting Karpin. Crocker moves ahead with the extraction plan but things go south quickly. Karpin was under surveillance and then he and Crocker almost get captured at the meeting place. Crocker gets shot escaping from the trap.

Crocker and Karpin hole up in a safe house. Francis Barclay, the number one man in Prague, has no interest in sticking out his neck to help Crocker. Barclay starts to draft a message to the home office blaming Crocker for going ahead with the extraction despite a (nonexistent) warning from Barclay.

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner), Flash (Wally West), Martian Manhunter, and Plastic Man deal with an infestation of kaiju that seem intent on battling one another in the North Atlantic Ocean.

They find that Abra Kadabra is the one controlling the giant monsters but something doesn’t read right about that to Batman. He calls in Plastic Man and has him retrieve the living creature of unknown origin or classification that is controlling the supervillain.

Fear!

Spider-Man runs into Hawkeye who is scared out of his mind. Hawkeye has just fled the scene of an attack on an armored car. Hawkeye was in the vehicle when it was attacked. It was transporting something of value for his employer, Cross Technology Enterprises (CTE). Mister Fear robbed the armored car and took a device that he expects will help him to build an atomic bomb.

Spidey and Hawkeye go looking for Mister Fear once the effects of the panic inducing gas wear off. They track him down to a penthouse apartment that overlooks the East River. They are ready for his tricks but Mister Fear still gets the upper hand momentarily. Hawkeye almost gets killed but in the end the heroes stop Mister Fear, recover the missing tech, and turn supervillain over to the police.

Minder Three Paul Crocker returned empty handed (but alive) from East to West Berlin, in 1986. He was stopped at the border by the KGB but then allowed to pass through. Minder One Lindsay Mills didn’t make it back from a mission in Ukraine. Crocker was home for less than a day when he was sent back out on a mission to Czechoslovakia to pick up a KGB agent who wanted to defect.

James Wason, Crocker’s boss, advised him to be extremely cautious, given the state of affairs, including the death of Mills. A Russian KGB agent who stopped Crocker at the border had the would-be defector, Valery Karpin, in Prague, under surveillance.

Getting Steven

Brian Doyle, a priest, searches for Steve, his brother. Steve murdered his wife Meredith and their two children. The police are aware of what happened but not why it happened or where Steve can be found. Clover, the uniformed police officer who was run over and almost killed in the previous issue, grew up with Brian, Steve, and Meredith. 

Brian eventually catches up to Steve at the top of the Empire State Building. The two brothers have it out. Brian was in love with Meredith and never really stopped caring for her in that way. He resented Steve for luring her away from him.

Wings and Arrows!

Hawkeye finds himself temporarily out of a job after he is replaced on the Avengers roster by Falcon. Hawkeye leaves Avengers mansion disgruntled but before long he lands a job at Cross Technological Enterprises (CTE) as their new security chief.

Deathbird breaks into Warehouse 12 during Hawkeye’s first week on the job. Hawkeye confronts her and they fight inside the warehouse. Deathbird seems to be too much for the archer to handle but Hawkeye evens the odds and defeats her. She is hauled away by CTE security guards but not until after Hawkeye kisses her, which enrages her.
