Logan advances on Miss Hines but does not harm her. The Professor throws the switch but something goes wrong. Logan is not incinerated. Logan advances on the Professor and kills him.

Thoughts

I don’t fully understand what happened. The machinery didn't function exactly as the Professor thought it would or should. Logan was burned but not killed. I’m not sure if Miss Hines escaped in time. 

I’m really starting to think that reading this story one chapter at a time was a mistake. I don’t think that I would have enjoyed more if I read it 2 to 3 chapters at a time but at least I would have been done with it by now.

Leon and Danny execute Evan for his transgression, as ordered by Father Mike. Sebastian Hyde beats Elaine half to death for cheating on him with Tracy. Yocum saves Tracy from getting beat to death by the Triad. Tracy returns the favor and then uses that goodwill to gain the time he needs to set up traps for Hyde, Father Mike, Leon, and Danny. He uses himself to bait the traps and takes another beating.

Chance locates the apartment of Davey King, the guy who tried to kill Dai Thomas. Chance suspects that King is the one who abducted Ronan White. He finds a screenplay that King wrote: Final Cut. The phone rings while he is there. The answering machine picks up. Conchita is reaching out to Davey, her boyfriend. She wants to see him.

Chance picks up the phone while she is still on the line and begins to impersonate King. He goes to see her but she’s got company when he gets there, guys who are looking for the money she stole and, now that she has told them about Davey’s blackmail operation, they want that money too. Davey kills them but not before one of them jabs him with a syringe.

Doctor Cornelius shoots Logan with a high powered rifle. It knocks him down. Logan gets back up fairly quickly and guts Doctor Cornelius.

The Professor and Miss Hines take off running. They make it to the reactor room. The Professor tries to talk her into serving as bait. She refuses so he forces her to do it just as Logan catches up to them.

Thoughts

I was wondering what would become of Miss Hines. I had a hard time seeing Logan gutting her. This makes more sense.

The Sinners - Part Four

Tracy headbuts Yocum and then dives from a third story window while Yocum is shooting at him. Tracy lands on a parked van and survives the fall. He escapes with some help from Evan who has had a change of heart about what he did.

The incident is observed by one of Hyde’s men who calls Chester to let him know what he just saw. Evan drops Tracy off. Tracy calls Elaine. She comes, pulls the bullet out of Tracy’s back, and patches him up. Hyde’s man sees it all from a distance and reports back into Chester.

Someone is blackmailing actors and killing them when they don’t pay up. Christopher Chance, the Human Target, impersonates actor Dai Thomas, one of the targets of the blackmailer(s). Chance, disguised as Thomas, deals with someone who comes after Thomas.

Conchita, a stripper, does something for Davey, her boyfriend. She kills and takes money from some guys whom she suspects are up to no good. She leaves a message on his answering machine, explains what she’s done.

I woke up bright and early today. I had what was left of the Basil Fried Rice for breakfast. I packed my bags and left the AirBnB. I got a toasted bagel plus a half dozen to take home with me. I headed west from Lynchburg until I reached the trailhead for Sharp Top Mountain. I got there around 9 AM and was on the trail within about 10 minutes. It took me about an hour to reach the top. I walked 1.45 miles on my way to the top.

The peak is just 1,300 feet above the parking area where I left my car but there were a few elevation drops on the way up and elevation gains on the way down which boosted my total climb a bit. I took one small detour on the way down to visit another outcrop of rocks which added to the total distance I covered, 3.07 miles. I headed home after that. It took me about 6 hours to get there, including stops. The heaviest traffic I encountered was in the last 25 miles. It took me about 1.5 hours to cover that last 25 miles.

I unpacked and added the stuff I bought to my inventory spreadsheet. In the process of doing that I discovered a third comic book that I bought at Heroes Con that I already have. It was another $1 book.

I woke up a little later than I did on Saturday but still with plenty of time to take care of things before heading to the convention center. I had the last of the lamb biryani for breakfast along with a slice of bread. I cleaned up, played games on my phone, and packed my bags. I checked out of the AirBnB around 10:20 and drove to downtown Charlotte.

I was planning to park in the same garage where I parked on Friday and Saturday but that would have been considerably more costly if I had. I didn’t have to pay anything on Friday or Saturday even though the garage was just a couple blocks from the convention center. Today there was a sign in front of the garage reading “Event Parking $30”. I didn’t think twice. I figured there had to be somewhere else I could park that would cost me less.

I got up bright and early on Saturday, feeling very refreshed. I had left over Lamb Biryani and leftover poppy seed bagel for breakfast. I warmed up the biryani in the microwave at the AirBnB and saved the time and money I would have spent going out for breakfast.

I left for the convention center at 9:30 and got there around 10:00. I walked around until 10:45. I bought some more comic books, just 3. See my video for more about those comic books.

The first panel I went to was the Edgar Rice Burroughs panel at 11:00. The panel members included Mark Schultz and Gary Gianni who were also part of the Prince Valiant panel on Friday. Roy Thomas and William Stout were also there, although Roy showed up late. The moderator was Henry G. Franke.

I got up bright and early, packed my stuff and was out the door by 7:30 AM. I stopped at a bagel place in Lynchburg and got a couple bagels toasted with butter and a bottle of water for the road. Once I had eaten enough I hit the road and continued south to Charlotte, NC. I didn’t get a great night’s rest so I was a little punchy. I stopped a couple more times than I otherwise might have, just to take a break from the road.

I got to Charlotte around 12 PM. I parked in the usual garage where I have parked several times before. It is just a couple blocks from the convention center. I had to wait in-line to pick up the 3-day pass that I bought online a couple days ago. I headed to the showroom floor, once I had my pass.

I left home at about 10:15 AM. I drove to Crisman Hollow and hiked the Jawbone Overlook trail. One of the suggested routes seemed crazy to me so I had to try it. I drove up to Frederick, MD on I-270 and then turned west, eventually making my way to I-81 which I took south until I got relatively close to Crisman Hollow.

Th hike wasn’t too long, only about 2.6 miles round trip. It was very warm when I got there but about halfway to the peak the sky got dark and when I got near the peak it started to rain lightly. The view from the top wasn’t great and I was a bit too distracted by the rain to hunt around and see what choice of views there might be. I did get a couple nice shots but then I headed back.

Logan kills all the guards who are sent to apprehend him. The Professor makes it out and finds Doctor Cornelius and Miss Hines. The three of them lock themselves in the adamantium vault. Doctor Cornelius bandages the stump where the Professor’s right hand used to be. Logan cuts his way through the wall.

Thoughts

The image on the cover of this issue does not occur in this chapter. It makes Doctor Cornelius look much more capable of defending himself and his colleagues than has been the case up to this point.

Tracy talks to Father Mike about Father Grant’s murder. Father Mike is suspicious of Tracy’s motives. Father Mike orders Evan to tail Tracy after he leaves the church.

Tracy heads to Chinatown, thinking that the killer may be from the triads. He beats up a pimp and tells him to arrange a meeting with his boss. Evan watches from a distance and then reports back to Father Mike.

Two-Face tells Batman his plan including how he expects Batman to die. Wren is still alive. Manon is revealed to be a bearded lady. Batman escapes. Wren is locked up with d’Urberville who shows him his deformity. 

Batman locates Wren and d’Urberville and is about to rescue them when Two-Face shows up. The freaks overwhelm Batman and knock him out. Batman wakes up. Two-Face is standing over him and tells him some more of his plans before departing with Wren and the freaks in the dirigible.

Logan breaks free and starts to wreck havoc in the scientific facility. Doctor Cornelius tries to get word to the Professor but there are problems with communications. Logan kills or maims several guards and then bursts through the floor to attack the Professor. The guards get there just in time to pull the Professor to safety.

Logan chops off one of the Professor’s hands. The chapter ends with the Professor freaking out and telling them to kill Weapon X.

Thoughts

This was a very fast moving, fluid chapter. Logan has the upper hand. He seems to be acting on instinct. How long will that last? How many more will die?

Bruce confronts Paul d’Urberville and finds out that d’Urberville is being blackmailed.
