Captain America (1968) 289

Captain America (1968) 289
Jan 1984

It's Assistant Editors' Month. This cover is like one of those images in the Sunday newspaper that asks you to pick out how many things are wrong with this picture?

There are two warnings on the cover, one in the lower left and the other in the lower right but if you bought this issue from a newsstand then the one in the lower left would have been replaced with a bar code. Captain America is facing backwards in the corner box. The logo in the upper right corner and the checkerboard pattern are reminiscent of DC Comics covers of the 1960s. The guys hanging out the window are (from left to right) J.M. DeMatteis, Mike Carlin, Mike Zeck, John Beatty.

Xenozoic Tales 13

Xenozoic Tales 13
Dec 1994

It has been about two and a half years since issue 12. The look and feel of the book have changed once again. The cover still feels like card stock but it isn’t as slick or shiny as the previous one. There is a small change to the Xenozoic Tales logo, the X has lost its tail, and the Cadillacs and Dinosaurs logo running down the side has changed too. It is more stylized and doesn’t stand out as much as it did. The image on the cover is accurate in spirit although it doesn’t depict a scene from the story itself.

Manhunter
Chapter 2: The Manhunter File
by Archie Goodwin, Walt Simonson, Klaus Janson, Ben Oda, Joe Letterese

Christine St. Clare returns to Zurich where she reports her findings on Manhunter (aka Paul Kirk) to Damon Nostrand, her boss at Interpol. Manhunter escaped a trap set for him on board a ship traveling from Calcutta to Burma by killing a tiger with a Bundi dagger. He first caught Interpol’s attention months before that when he showed up at Banque International to withdraw money. Kirk was believed to be dead. He hadn’t been seen in over 25 years. They checked his fingerprints and found that they matched the ones that the bank had on file.
