Fantastic Four

My earliest memories of the Fantastic Four are of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon both with and without HERBIE. I distinctly remember watching at least a couple episodes of one of the those series. First, there was the story where Galactus comes to Earth and the Human Torch has to retrieve the Ultimate Nullifier before he consumes the planet. Second, there was the story where the team goes back in time after finding an ancient Egyptian wall that has images of what looks like the Thing. I know now that both of those stories were adapted from stories from the Lee & Kirby run on Fantastic Four.

Fantastic Four was not a comic book that I frequently bought when I was younger although I did occasionally buy an issue here or there. The few issues that I have in my collection that I bought when I was a teen are from John Byrne's run on the book.

There is something about the team that has always appealed to me. I now have probably close to 100 issues, mostly from the 1980s. The only times that I can recall buying Fantastic Four regularly was around 1990 during Walt Simonson's run on the book and then about dozen years later during the Waid & Wieringo run.

In 2023 I started to read In Search of Galactus (FF 204-214). I finished that collected edition in 2024 and then started to read the run by Doug Moench and Bill Sienkiewicz (FF 219, 222-231). John Byrne wrote and drew FF 220 and 221. I finished up through FF 231 in 2025 and have plans to read the Byrne run (FF 232-292) but I also have plans to go back and read issues that were reprinted in Fantastic Four Epic Collections 10 & 11 (FF 168-203).
