Fear!

Spider-Man runs into Hawkeye who is scared out of his mind. Hawkeye has just fled the scene of an attack on an armored car. Hawkeye was in the vehicle when it was attacked. It was transporting something of value for his employer, Cross Technology Enterprises (CTE). Mister Fear robbed the armored car and took a device that he expects will help him to build an atomic bomb.
Spidey and Hawkeye go looking for Mister Fear once the effects of the panic inducing gas wear off. They track him down to a penthouse apartment that overlooks the East River. They are ready for his tricks but Mister Fear still gets the upper hand momentarily. Hawkeye almost gets killed but in the end the heroes stop Mister Fear, recover the missing tech, and turn supervillain over to the police.
This was an okay read. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t terrible either, very middle of the road. Heroes meet, Heroes team-up to defeat a supervillain. Heroes go their separate ways. I don't regret reading it although if I wasn't reading it as part of the back history to the Hawkeye limited series then I might feel differently.
Notes
This is the first appearance of this incarnation of Mister Fear. His real name is Alan Fagan. His next appearance was in Web of Spider-Man 63 (Apr 1990). Larry Cranston, the previous Mister Fear, was Fagan’s uncle and appeared in four comic books prior to this issue, all of them issues of Daredevil. Cranston was the third Mister Fear, according to what I’ve read.
Hawkeye speaks briefly on the phone with his boss at CTE, Ambrose Connors, who does not appear in this issue.
