Chapter Six

Annalise takes the fight to Rook who has taken over Lord Mortus volcano stronghold. Annalise is a killing machine. She eliminates many of Rook’s troops. Eventually she locates Rook who is in the process of interrogating the Roboman. She and Rook fight. They talk. She gets the upper hand. He gets the upper hand. She gets it back.

Rook escapes using a jet pack. Annalise returns to her mother. For a brief time they get along but then they get into an argument and the rebuilt Roboman murders Nina. Annalise becomes the new tsarina. She calls the Roboman father but in the epilogue it is revealed that her father’s memories were never successfully transferred to the Roboman.

Saving Grace

Clover gets run over but miraculously survives the incident. Valdez and Chapel go to extreme lengths to keep a civilian, William Grace, from killing himself not long after he saves the life of a young boy. . 

Thoughts

I like the street level aspects of much of this issue but the things that Valdez and Chapel did to save Grace from himself, on two separate occasions, were a bit too much and seemed out of character with the rest of the story.

Huntress (aka Bobbi Morse) travels to Mexico City. She was sent there by Congressman Kirk and Doctor Wilma Calvin, who fear that SHIELD has been infiltrated by rogue elements. She is on the trail of SHIELD agents who may have betrayed the agency when she encounters an old friend, Scott Lawrence, one of SHIELD’s agents in Mexico.

Huntress and Lawrence work together to figure out what SHIELD agent Rico Santana is really up to. The story ends with Santana and Lawrence dead and Huntress branded a traitor by the agency she seeks to help.

Nina Pavlovna comes to realize and accept that the Roboman has Dante Alderman’s memories, after she has had some of her men work him over. Annalise recovers. Agent Rook continues to look for Alderman’s missing weapon. The Roboman turns himself over to Rook. Annalise plays chess with Nina. Annalise meets Wilhelm. She tricks Nina and then leaves to find the Roboman.

Jackson Vale kidnapped Stacy, his young daughter, from her mother who has left him for NYPD Detective Ronald Kurt. Vale’s wife wants a divorce and wants Jackson out of the picture. She wants to marry Kurt. Jackson refuses to acquiesce to her demands and responded by taking Stacy.

Clover, Valdez, Xaviera, and Chapel meet Jackson Vale after he runs into them on the street. He’s carrying a rifle and in his rush to get where he’s going he knocks down Clover. The officers chase Vale down but then Detective Kurt arrives on the scene after they take Vale into custody.

I got up, took care of stuff and left the space where I stayed in Lynchburg around 8:45 this morning. Before leaving I ate the last bit of Saturday night’s dinner that still remained. I stopped at The Bagel & I for a little bit more. I’m not sure I got my money’s worth but it was filling.

I drove from there to a Sheetz in Ruckersville, VA. I took a short break and then moved on without putting any gas in my car or buying anything. My next stop was the Sheetz in Bealeton, VA. I was almost out of gas by then so I filled the tank and then drove the rest of the way home. I got home around 1:40 PM.

I unpacked my stuff, put things away, and then updated my comic book inventory and want list spreadsheets.

I got up early, took care of the usual stuff and then went to Family Dough Bagels. I got one bagel cinnamon raisin toasted with butter and a half dozen to take home with me. I ate the bagel with the last of the biryani from Thursday's lunch in Warrenton. I packed all my stuff and checked out of the place (where I spent the last couple nights) around 10:30.

I got to the convention center a little after 11. I did a little bit of browsing before heading upstairs for the Marvels and Monsters with Tom Scioli panel. It may as well have been called the Tom Scioli Spotlight panel because that’s basically what it was. 

Tom was interviewed by comic book scholar Michael Kobre. They discussed various projects on which Scioli has worked. The only one that I have read is his biography of Jack Kirby. There was a little bit of talk about projects he would like to tackle.

I woke up at a reasonable hour, took a shower, and got dressed. I had a bite to eat, leftover Indian food from Thursday. I decided to wear the red Indie Island t-shirt I bought yesterday. Unlike yesterday I made arrangements for parking in advance. Yesterday I parked in a garage a couple blocks from the convention center where I have parked in the past.

Usually I have paid less than $10 to park there on Fridays and nothing on Saturdays and Sundays. This time it cost me $21 to park there on Friday. I’m not sure why because I checked in advance and it looked like the price would be $10. I paid $11 today to park in a garage that was about six blocks from the convention center. I just made a reservation to park there again tomorrow, for the same price. Better safe than sorry.

Everything did not go according to plan today. In retrospect I think the problem was that I skipped dinner last night. I got up on time, took a shower, got dressed, and packed everything up according to plan. I went and got some breakfast, a couple bagels. Maybe if I had got a breakfast sandwich with egg and sausage or something like that then I might not have had a problem, but I didn’t so I did.

I sat in my car and waited until I felt a little better. I started to drive to Charlotte but I felt weak despite having eaten half of one of the bagels. I pulled into a gas station and sat in my car, with the air conditioning on. I thought that maybe it was just a matter of having had a headache the night before, which was more or less gone by the time I left Lynchburg. It cut into the amount of sleep I got but resting in the car didn’t seem to help much.

I left home around 11:30 and drove to Warrenton, VA. With the heavy traffic in the DC area (mostly on the beltway) it took me about 90 minutes to get there. I ate lunch at Taj Palace Indian Cuisine. It was a very good meal. I had enough leftovers for another meal.

I had a bit of trouble connecting my phone to the internet once I got back in my car. I knew more or less where to go next. I made a stop at a Wawa in Warrenton before getting back on Route 29 and continuing south. My next stop after that was a gas station near Ruckersville, VA. I arrived there around 3:20. I stretched my legs, used the bathroom, and called one of my brothers before getting back on the road around 3:40.

Tara, Robin, and Malo travel to Mars to find the cure for the Spore Death after Haneesh falls ill. Botol, the wig-maker, helps Tara and Robin piece together disguises once they are on Mars. Malo stays behind in their spaceship. They find the Spore Death and escape back to Phantom Haven just in time to save Haneesh’s life and apprehend the traitor who infected him.

Hawkeye (aka Clint Barton) is just minding his business when he finds himself enmeshed in something much bigger than he realized or expected.

Hawkeye, member of the Avengers and the head of security at Cross Technological Enterprises (CTE), is enjoying some time off with his girlfriend, fellow CTE employee Sheila Danning, when he gets alerted to a problem at CTE’s Long Island City location. He rushes there and finds Mockingbird breaking into one of the warehouses. She tells him that she has tracked the components of a “mass mind controlled device” to CTE.
