The Price of Victory

Most of the villains have been defeated and are down for the count but the fight continues. Thor fights Goliath. Captain America battles the Wrecker. It takes Thor some time but he defeats the giant villain. Cap has his hands full with the Wrecker who is stronger now that the rest of his crew have lost their superpowers. He defeats the super villain with a big assist from the Wasp.

There’s a lot in this issue. It opens with Hellboy’s origin, although there isn’t much revealed about his past. He appears out of nowhere in front of a group of soldiers and civilians in East Bromwich, England in 1944. The assembled group was expecting something but they weren’t quite sure what form that something would take. This part of the story was narrated by 1st Sgt George Whitman, US Army, the commanding officer of the soldiers.

Act 2

Naoki turns to his mother for comfort. She hugs him and then asks him to make a speech at one of her rallies. He is stunned. He can’t believe how heartless she is.

His father tries to offer him comfort but Naoki locks himself in his room. Nobuhiko, his father, unlike Kazuko, his mother, feels bad about the card their son has been dealt. Kazuko gets back to work on her campaign. She announces her son’s imminent death at a campaign rally.

Thor answers the call sent by the Wasp and Ant-Man. Captain Marvel escapes from the Dark Force thanks to the Shroud. She emerges in San Francisco just as the Shroud is apprehending a criminal. She races to Avengers Mansion in New York City at the speed of light. She meets up with Wasp, Thor, and Ant-Man. They trade information and decide on a course of action.

Deathlok and Ryker travel to Japan. Ryker is there to make a deal with Yoritomo and Shiro Yoshida. Yoritomo double crosses his business partner and Ryker. He wants weapons to start a new war with the US. He gets them but then sends ninjas to force Ryker to return the money he got for the weapons. He sends assassins in armor built by Cybertek to kill Yoshida. Yoshida, aka Sunfire, who was once a member of the X-Men, uses his mutant fire powers to defend himself.

Act 3

Takebe, Ms. Ishioka, and others search for Mrs. Asakura. They find her in a field. She talks to Takebe once again as if he was her husband. She asks him why he has to go. He pulls out the Ikigami and talks to her about duty to country. He then insists that she has to get up and be strong. To everyone’s surprise she does just that. Takebe dies at home peacefully a few hours later.

Even a God Can Die!

Hercules almost dies in the hospital. His heartbeat slows to the point that it seems as if he is dead. Baron Zemo sends Absorbing Man and Titania to the hospital to finish off Hercules. Wasp is the only Avenger at the hospital but she is joined by Ant-Man (Scott Lang). Together they deal with the two powerhouse villains. I had my doubts but I really liked the way this part of the story plays out.

Deathlok arrives in Estrella and offers to help the rebels. The last time he was in Estrella he fought them, because he was being controlled by Cybertek.

Takebe goes to the local center and talks to a therapist, about the Ikigami he received. Dr. Nanako Kubo talks to him. She does what she can to offer him support but tells him that she can’t give him what he needs. Fujimoto arrives at the center in time to over hear them talking. He is very moved by what he sees and hears. Takebe is on his knees, doubled over, and sobbing. Kubo suggests that maybe there is someone who can carry on his legacy.
