Act 3

Takebe, Ms. Ishioka, and others search for Mrs. Asakura. They find her in a field. She talks to Takebe once again as if he was her husband. She asks him why he has to go. He pulls out the Ikigami and talks to her about duty to country. He then insists that she has to get up and be strong. To everyone’s surprise she does just that. Takebe dies at home peacefully a few hours later.

Act 2

Takebe goes to the local center and talks to a therapist, about the Ikigami he received. Dr. Nanako Kubo talks to him. She does what she can to offer him support but tells him that she can’t give him what he needs. Fujimoto arrives at the center in time to over hear them talking. He is very moved by what he sees and hears. Takebe is on his knees, doubled over, and sobbing. Kubo suggests that maybe there is someone who can carry on his legacy.

Act 1

Shoji Takebe works at the Peaceful Gardens Nursing Home. He tends to make mistakes. He isn’t one of the most valuable employees. His life changes when a new person moves into the nursing home. Mrs. Asakura spends most of her days in a wheelchair even though she is still physically able to walk. She barely talks but when she sees Shoji for the first time she tries to get out of her wheelchair. She mistakes him for Tokuzo, her husband, who was killed while serving in the army during World War II.

Episode 3: The Pure Love Drug

Act 3

Katsumura races to get back to be with Kazusa when she dies. He calls her while he is on the road. He convinced her to stay in the apartment and wait for him. He has four hours go get there but then he gets stuck in a traffic jam.

Katsumura urges Kazusa to take some of the drugs he has hidden in a closet. The drugs are rumored to prolong life. Kazusa doesn’t want to but then changed her mind. Katsumura makes back with 30 minutes to spare. He is too late. Kazusa is already dead. She died from an unintentional overdose of the drugs.

Act 2

Kazusa’s landlord finds out about the Ikigami and calls Katsumura. Kazusa has about 17 hours left at the time Katsumura gets the news. He dithers a bit before calling her.

Kazusa picks up but their conversation does not go well. Kazusa ends the call by hanging up on him. She’s still angry at him. She tells him to keep working and not worry about her. Katsumura is torn but for a while he continues to work.

Act 1

Fujimoto’s girlfriend breaks up with him. She can’t stand what his job does to him, how he walls himself off from her emotionally. He warns her about being too open with her feelings about his job. If he reported her she could get sent to a re-education center or maybe even executed by lethal injection.
