In Search of Galactus
by Marv Wolfman, John Byrne, Joe Sinnott, Tom Orzechowski, Ben Sean
The Fantastic Four move on from the Sargasso of Space and find Galactus, who ignores them at first. It isn’t until they break open the cages in the zoo he has amassed and free all the critters that he pays them any attention.
Reed explains the situation but Galactus remains uninterested in helping them deal with the Sphinx. Galactus changes his mind after Reed offers to rescind the deal they made after Galactus first attempted to consume the Earth. Galactus agrees but only on condition that they fetch him Terrax, whom Galactus intends to be his next herald.
The deal that Galactus and Reed made (in Fantastic Four 51?) forbids Galactus from attacking Earth ever again. Reed seems to be exchanging one threat for another. How will he deal with Galactus once the Sphinx has been dealt with?
HERBIE is in three panels of this issue, all of which take place before the Fantastic Four arrive at Galactus’ starship.
Reed, Sue, and Ben are still rapidly aging and have less than 48 hours until they will die.
Galactus’ zoo reminds me of something that Brainiac might have.
The story continues to crawl along. I’m enjoying it but the characters and story are lacking in depth or complexity. There's definitely potential here that is not realized.
