by Dan Mishkin, Gary Cohn, Ernie Colón, John Costanza, Tom Ziuko, Karen Berger
Dark Opal makes plans for how to deal with Amethyst and her allies. Carnelian sets his own plan in motion to deal with Amethyst.
Prince Topaz tells Amethyst of his plan to get get his sister to leave Dark Opal’s alliance and join their own. Amethyst plans a mission with the younger Emerald Princess to locate and retrieve the shard of amethyst that Granch lost.
Dark Opal ejects the emissaries of the Varn from his castle.
Lady Emerald has gone mad.
Carnelian and Princess Amethyst cross paths. They fight but Carnelian runs off once he has recovered the shard of Amethyst from the giant lizard.
Prince Topaz returns to Topaz Keep and is placed under arrest by his sister’s guards
There is a map of Gemworld which takes up a good portion of the first page. It looks kind of like a skull. It shows up again in this issue but it isn't blown up to fill the whole page in the subsequent appearances.
There are lots of little things going on here. The younger Princess Emerald seems to have taken over the role that was once played by Amy Winston.
What will happen to Prince Topaz? Is his sister ready to change sides?
How powerful will Dark Opal become once the shard that Karnelian recovered is added to his magic breastplate?
Will Lady Emerald ever get over the death of one of her daughters? What role will Princess Amethyst’s allies (Garnet, Turquoise, Moonstone, Aquamarine) play in the next issue? They didn’t do very much in this one.
Princes Amethyst says she used up her magical abilities fighting Karnelian. What exactly does that mean?
Purple Prose
Seven letters spread across two pages heap praise on Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld. Most of them reference Amethyst 7, the wedding issue. Most of them have positive things to say about Amethyst’s new allies, especially Lady Turquoise. Some of them ask about the role that Prince Topaz might play in Princess Amethyst’s future.
