Fantastic Four 491
Dec 2002
Sentient (Part 1 of 3)
By Mark Waid, Mike Wieringo, Karl Kesel
Reed is concerned about a couple mishaps in the past couple issues and has yet to figure out their cause. It occurs to him that he has tested Franklin his son but not Valeria his daughter for abnormalities in her DNA. Reed and Sue rush back to the Baxter Building. Reed conducts tests but finds nothing. Sue and Ben go to see a movie, Reed is too tired to join them. They are attacked by a living formula that escaped from Reed’s PDA or tablet.
The formula from Reed’s device takes on human form and seeks to destroy Sue and Ben. The issue ends in the middle of the fight.
Johnny tries to deal with his new job as CFO of Fantastic Four, Inc. He is dreadfully bored by everything he has to do in his new job.
This is an okay issue. I am wowed by the art and willing to hang around for the rest of the story.
On the cover this is Fantastic Four (1998) 62 but after issue 73/500 the series went back to the original numbering and 491 is where this issue would have been placed in the original numbering scheme.
