Ikigami: The Ultimate Limit 1.3

Ikigami: The Ultimate Limit Vol 1
By Motoro Mase

Episode 1: The End of Vengeance

Act 3

Yosuke tries to burn Shimoyama using lighter fluid and a zippo but Shimoyama fights back. Yosuke does cut his opponent’s hand pretty badly with the knife.

After the fight he doesn’t feel any better. He starts to see the futility of his actions. I thought for a moment there he was contemplating suicide but he doesn’t. His thoughts get interrupted by a blast from the past. He sees a kid getting beaten up in a park by some other kids, presumably his classmates. After the other kids run off Yosuke tells the kid not to wait for things to get better. He tells him to fight back now.

Fujimoto writes up his report about Yosuke Kamoi. He notes what happened in Kamoi’s last 24 hours including the crimes he committed and the impact on his parents. Fujimoto questions whether Kamoi would have acted the way he did if he had not received an Ikigami but he doesn’t include those thoughts in his report. He knows nothing about the advice Yosuke gave to the teenager who was getting bullied.

The final scene is of the teenager in class acting out, scaring his classmates as he lifts a chair over his head and thinks about what Yosuke told him. I really like the twists at the end of the story. Kamoi isn’t completely noble and selfless but he does something redeeming which goes unnoticed by all but one. Fujimoto isn’t blindly doing his job. He understands the risks involved in taking a stand against the National Welfare Act.
