Father’s Day
By Kurt Busiek and Brent Anderson
Zack tells Tamara about his encounter with his would-be sons. He is trepidatious about having a child under the current circumstances. He worries about what he or she, the child, might become. This isn’t the reaction Tamara was hoping for.
Jack continues to fight crime but he begins to worry about his own safety. He worries about what will happen to Tamara and their child if he is killed fighting crime.
Jack goes to the police station where the two doppelgängers are being held. They reiterate their decision to team up and kill him but then they disappear before his eyes.
Roscoe James, one of the Trouble Boys is brought in, while Jack is at the police station. The Trouble Bous are a gang of young men that Jack mentors. The police think Roscoe robbed an old woman. Jack is convinced that he didn’t and talks the police into letting him go.
Jack is approached by a young man, as he leaves the police station, who claims to be his son. This one is not wearing a costume. He is a college professor. He explains to Jack that he comes from a future that is possible but not certain. He never knew his father. He is there doing research but he also wanted to meet Zack.
Jack gets an idea. He trains Roscoe to be his replacement. He stays at home and stays in radio contact with Roscoe. He coaches him through a fight with the Brass Monkey, a villain.
Thoughts
Good read. I like how it all worked out and was tied together. I think I was hoping for a an ending that wasn’t quite as grounded as this one but but what I got isn’t out of the ordinary for this series.
