The Old Guard - Part 4
by Greg Rucka, Leandro Fernández, Daniela Miwa, Jodi Wynne, Eric Trautman, Alejandro Arbona
Andy urges Nile to forget her family. Andy has forgotten what her mother and her siblings look like in the five millennia that she has been alive. She remembers Achilles, a man she met and fell in love with a little over two hundred years ago. He was mortal. She watched him grow old but left him before he died.
Merrick tries to interrogate Nicky and Joe. They aren’t cooperative. They fight back but Merrick and his men are ruthless.
Andy, Booker, and Nile head to Dubai, based on a lead that Booker finds. It turns out to be another trap. Booker has betrayed them.
I really like the flashbacks. They are the high point of the story so far for me. They seem to be invested with more heart than the events happening in the present.
I wasn’t completely surprised by the reveal that Booker was lying to them. Something felt off and he seemed like the most likely suspect. Nile caught on at the last minute but by then it was too late to do anything about him.
I’m not sure how they are going to wrap this story up, to my satisfaction, in just one issue. I like the reveal in this story but it seems like all chips are stacked against the good guys.
