New Teen Titans (1984) 4

Jan 1985

--Torment!

by Marv Wolfman, George Perez, Romeo Tanghal, Todd Klein, Adrienne Roy

Nightwing, Cyborg, Wonder Girl, Changeling, Starfire, and Wally West battle their evil doppelgängers. Lilith and Arella stand on the sidelines and watch. Raven keeps them from interfering. The six Titans kill their duplicate selves and then attack Raven. They kill her despite Arella’s pleas for them to stop.

Lilith insists that it had to be that way. Raven had to die in order for them to stand a chance against Trigon. Arella is heartbroken. Trigon awakens and prepares to get revenge on the Titans for killing his daughter.

Thoughts

Jericho is nowhere to be found in this issue. I’m not sure if there is any significance to this fact.

This was a relatively fast read. It felt very surface level and lacking in depth.

There is something off about the colors on some pages in this issue. I doubt that the colorist is to blame. I put it down to the printing.

What now? How are the Titans going to defeat Trigon without the help of Raven? Can Lilith help in some significant way?

Titans Tower

Three more letters from fans of the series about the New Teen Titans (1984) 1. All three letters heap praise on the creators but the third one also takes them to task for the indication that Vega is a red star, which is not the case in the real world. Marv’s explanation is that this keeps Superman from visiting that solar system.

Dick Giordano writes about the first attempt to create a JLA Avengers crossover event book. He recommends that readers read the notes from Marvel in Marvel Age 19 (Oct 1984) about the aborted event before reading this column.

I do not own and have have not read the notes from Marvel Age 19. I looked online but I was unable to find a scan of the notes from Marvel Age 19. I did find a few blogposts that quoted some of the notes from Marvel Age 19.

I am considering paying $5 for a digital copy of Back Issue 1 (Nov 2003) which has an analysis of the aborted attempted crossover event. I do own a copy of and have read the JLA Avengers event which was published a couple decades after the aborted one. I read JLA Avengers in Sep-Oct 2012 but there are no notes about it in my blogs.
