The Secret Origin of the Golden Age Fury
by Roy Thomas, Dann Thomas, Tom Grindberg, Tony DeZuniga, Carl Gafford, David Cody Weiss, Robert Greenberger

16 pages

The Furies of Greek myths grant Helena Kosmatos, a Greek teenager, superpowers after she calls for vengeance on her older brother after he caused their mother to suffer a sudden and fatal heart attack. The Furies grant Helena the superpowers with the understanding that she must follow through and kill her brother. Helena does just that. She also kills a number of Nazi spies with whom her brother was working.

The story ends with her meeting Johnny Chambers (aka Johnny Quick) who promises to take her back to the United States with him.

Thoughts

This is the first appearance of the Golden Age Fury. She is the mother Lyta Trevor (aka Fury) who was a member of Infinity Inc. Lyta Trevor was the daughter of Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor of Earth-2, prior to Crisis on Infinite Earths. Most of the subsequent appearances of the Golden Age Fury were in issues of Young All-Stars. She also appeared in a dozen issues or so of Wonder Woman (1987).

This origin is a bit bare when it comes to plot. The art didn’t win me over. It felt like a story that could have been told in considerably fewer pages without sacrificing much.

Secret Admirers

Four letters in response to Secret Origins 7 are spread across two pages. They are mostly positive. Two of the letters point out that there was no letters page in secret Origins 7. Two of the letters question the retooling of the Golden Age history of the DC Universe.

Roy Thomas devotes a few paragraphs to the origins of the Golden Age Fury and advertises the coming of Young All-Stars.
