Episode 19: Entrusted Words

Act 2

War breaks out. Ikigami-land is now at war with the Federation. The government of Ikigami-land’s ally asks for volunteers to serve in combat support positions. Fujimoto and Mr. Ishii are stunned by the news.

Mamoru Nakagami doesn’t go out for several hours. He stays in his apartment. He doesn’t know how to respond to his death sentence. Naoko Sasamura comes over to see him. She encourages him to contact his mother, whom he has not seen since he got into an argument with her.

Mamoru turns on his phone. It rings before he has a chance to call his mother. It is his boss. There are anti-war protests in the streets. He wants Mamoru to report in right away. Mamoru doesn’t get a chance to tell him that he has received an Ikigami. He gets off the phone ready to follow orders but Naoko is still there. She insists that he go see his mother.

Thoughts

This chapter was a little confusing. I find it confusing that they don’t name these countries. I thought I had it all figured out until they revealed, earlier in this episode that, that the country where the story is taking place is not Japan. I have decided to call it Ikigami-land, for lack of a better name.

I’m not sure how this story will wind down. I’m not sure I will be satisfied with how it wraps up.
