Ikigami: The Ultimate Limit Vol 10
By Motoro Mase
Episode 20: The Phantom Country
Act 1
Fujimoto is released from the Thought Reform Program after 6 months of reconditioning. His parents no longer want to have anything to do with him. He meets with Mr. Ishii only to discover that Mr. Ishii is an undercover National Welfare Police officer. He now wants Fujimoto to spy on on someone for him. Fujimoto doesn’t feel as though he has a choice so he agrees to spy for Mr. Ishii on Nanase Kubo, the doctor whom he reported on Episode 12 (The Truth Exposed).
Fujimoto stops by the flower shop where Nanase works. She agrees to have lunch with him. After he leaves she picks up the phone and makes a call. She tells the person on the other end of the phone that she would be happy to help.
Fujimoto is in a daze for much of this installment. He is happy at first to see Mr. Ishii but that quickly fades when he learns that his former boss is a police officer. He sinks even lower when he learns that it was Mr. Ishii who planted the trap that led to his arrest.
I’m not sure what to make of the phone call at the end of the chapter. Who is Kubo talking to? Is she also working for the National Welfare Police or is she back in contact with the group that is opposed to the National Welfare Law? I could see it going either way at this point.
This could be a whole new direction for this series. It is a shame that it is all going to wrap up very quickly.
