Green Arrow (1983) 3

Green Arrow (1983) 3
Jul 1983

Hexagon of Death
by Mike W. Barr, Trevor Von Eeden, Dick Giordano, Tom Ziuko, Ben Oda, Len Wein

Green Arrow interrogates Count Vertigo and finds out who hired him. Green Arrow drops Count Vertigo off at a police station after he feels that he’s gotten what he can from him.

Oliver Queen gets a visit from a CIA agent named Jones the next day. They talk long enough for Ollie to realize that he is out of the loop. Ollie next tries to fast talk the board of Horton Chemicals but that gets him nowhere.

Ollie plays the part of the playboy millionaire for a while. He sobers up after a heated meeting with Deidre Wagner who accuses him of making a mockery of Abigail’s faith in him.

Ollie, with a big assist from his executive assistant, finally figures out the password to unlock Abigail’s computer. He finds what he’s been looking for, the formula for the synthetic fuel that Horton Chemicals was working on before Abby died. Someone else hacks Ollie’s computer and also gets that information and orders a hit on Oliver Queen.

Green Arrow runs into Jones for a second time, just after the CIA agent foiled an attempt on Oliver Queen’s life. Green Arrow returns the favor. Together they make plans to take on the bad guys and recover the only known sample of the oil substitute which is aboard Abby’s yacht.

Thoughts

I don’t recall who is behind the attempts to steal the chemical formula. I think it has to be either Abby’s daughter or Abby’s brother or possibly both. Thorndyke is working for someone who remains in the shadows. Deidre Wagner is too but maybe only by proxy and without realizing it.

There’s a lot going on in this installment. Following it all wasn’t the easiest task in the world. The visuals are, once again, beautiful and at times pulled me through the issue at a breakneck pace. I am eager to see how things get wrapped up in the next issue.

Letters Page

There are two pages of letters from fans, in response to the first issue of this mini-series. All of them have positive things to say about what they found in the first chapter of this story.
