Death Quest to Qward
by Denny O'Neil, Joe Staton, Frank McLaughlin

Hal Jordan sets a trap for Sinestro, whom he battled in the previous issue. Sinestro returns, as Green Lantern feared that he would, but Hal is prepared for him. He manages to get a hold of Sinestro's ring. Sinestro flees through a dimensional portal to Qward.

Hal follows him after powering up his ring. Hal finds Sinestro after defeating one of the Weaponers of Qward. Green Lantern discovers during the fight that his ring doesn't work while he is near the citadel where he hopes to find Sinestro.

Hal sneaks around the citadel and locates Sinestro but his cover is blown when Fabian, a young boy who followed him through the portal, shows up. Sinestro is in the process of getting a new power ring when the fight begins. The ring isn't at full strength but it is strong enough to give Sinestro an advantage. Hal evens the odds with the lightning bolts that the fallen weaponer was carrying.

Hal and Fabian escape back to earth only to discover that it has been invaded by a force from Qward.

Thoughts

I love the cover but once I got beyond it my enthusiasm for this issue faded. The issue is very plot heavy. There is very little in the way of character moments. Sinestro is a bit too much of a one-note villain to satisfy me. What's up with Fabian? I fail to see what he adds to the story. Is this some ploy to get the book to appeal to younger readers?
