Secret Origins starring Captain Marvel

This story is a retelling of the story by Bill Parker & C. C. Beck published in Whiz Comics 2 (Feb 1940). A note on the first page says it is adapted from a story in Whiz Comics 1 but there wasn’t such an issue. The original title of the series was intended to be Flash Comics but that was scrapped when they could not secure the trademark for Flash Comics. Similarly, Captain Marvel was originally going to be called Captain Thunder but that was changed when they could not obtain that trademark.
Roy Thomas recounts the short version of the publication history of Captain Marvel. He explains that he originally intended to have Gil Kane draw this issue but Kane didn’t have the time. He talks about how Captain Marvel started at Fawcett but later moved to DC Comics.
