Thoughts

This story originally appeared in Our Army at War 162 (Jan 1966) and 163 (Feb 1966). The Viking Prince first appeared in Brave and the Bold 1 (Aug 1955). He was a regular in Brave and the Bold for a few years. His run in Brave and the Bold ended with issue 24 (Jul 1959). This story features the first appearance of the Viking Prince since his run in Brave and the Bold ended in 1959. Sgt Rock first appeared in Our Army at War 81 (Apr 1959). He was a regular in Our Amy at War from then until the series was renamed Sgt Rock in 1977. His book continued to be published until Jul 1988, when it was canceled due to low sales.

The ratio of text to images in this story seems off. There should be more images considering the amount text (narration, dialogue) that there is in this story.

The ending is bittersweet. It got me a little choked up when I read it and even now thinking about it. It can be read as analogy for existential angst of various varieties. It didn’t strike me as simple as it might seem on the surface.

Another Time Another Place

This story originally appeared in Our Army at War 240 (Jan 1972).

This is a science-fiction war story. It has nothing to do with Sgt Rock or the Viking Prince. It is a bit too heavy handed for me. There is too much message and not much else.
