DC Comics Presents 85

DC Comics Presents 85
Sep 1985

The Jungle Line
Alan Moore, Rick Veitch, Al Williamson, John Costanza, Tatjana Wood, Julius Schwartz

Superman gets infected by the Blood Morel. He loses his powers and starts hallucinating. He thinks he is going to die. He rents a car, heads south, and crosses paths with Swamp Thing. Superman is too far gone to act rationally. He has forgot what he knew about the Blood Morel, which originated on Krypton. Swamp Thing recognizes what Superman needs and helps him to recover.

Thoughts

This is the only one of the three Alan Moore Superman stories that I had not read before. I think it is good but that it is also the lesser of the three.

Superman Annual 11 (For the Man Who Has Everything) was also published in 1985. Both stories involve Superman getting influenced by plants. The Black Mercy puts him into a coma like state. The Blood Morel has a very different effect on the Man of Steel. I talked about For the Man Who Has Everything on DTC 85. I wrote about the other Alan Moore Superman story, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? a couple years ago.

I have not read Alan Moore’s run on Swamp Thing, which began in early 1984. I don’t know if or how this story meshes with the story that was running in Swamp Thing at that time.
