A Touchy Subject
by Paul Grist
Rico Costas is put on trial. Rose Thawn, Oscar Darke’s lawyer, defends Rico. He is acquitted and leaves the courtroom with a restraining order preventing the New Eden Police from approaching him. Everything seems peachy for Rico but then he starts to receive hints that he should get out of town.
Rico panics after he gets home and finds that someone has search his apartment. He is afraid that the Blind Man, a hitman, is after him. Rico goes to the police and gets himself locked up again, where he will be safe from the Blind Man, or so he believes.
It has been over 9 months since I last read Kane.
The way this issue ends makes me think that there will be follow up in the next issue or two. I don’t know if Rico will be around for very long, for one reason or another.
The Blind Man is presented in such a way that makes me think he is molded after Matt Murdock. I don’t think he’s a good guy but his look and the way Rico describes him makes him sound like he has superpowers, a la Daredevil.
I like how the story circles around. It opens with Rico in a jail cell and ends with him in that same jail cell. It isn’t until just before it ends that it becomes clear that most of this issue was a flashback.
I love the tone of this installment. Grist does such a great job of doing so much with the spare look of the pages.
