New Teen Titans (1984) 6

New Teen Titans (1984) 6
Mar 1985

Titansmania
by Marv Wolfman, George Perez, Dan Jurgens, Romeo Tanghal, John Costanza, Adrienne Roy

New York City has a parade for the Teen Titans but their interest in getting all the attention, for saving the city and the world from Trigon, fades fairly quickly. They return to the desert southwest where they camped during the Tales of the New Teen Titans. They talk about Raven, the nightmares they had while they were prisoners of Trigon, and how those dreams still haunt them.

Thoughts

George Perez painted the cover for this issue and wrote the plot with Marv Wolfman. This might be my least favorite cover that Perez drew or painted. Dan Jurgens and Romeo Tanghal are respectively credited with layouts and finishes for the interior art.

Terry Long, Donna's husband, joins the Titans in the desert. He tries to help them work through the unpleasantness they have been feeling in the aftermath of their battle with Trigon. I’m not sure how I felt about his attempts to help them.

Vic says at one point that he’s only been Cyborg for a little over a year but the New Teen Titans debuted over four years prior to this issue. Does not compute.

This is not my favorite issue of New Teen Titans.

The Tower

Four letters from fans in reaction to New Teen Titans (1984) 3 are spread across two pages. All of them are positive although some of the letters do contain some concerns about things that might come out of that story.

There are no responses from Marv Wolfman but he does make some announcements at the beginning of the first page, the biggest of which are that George Perez will no longer be penciling the book and that he and George will be working on a couple other projects together.

One of those projects is a book called Crisis on Infinite Earths. The other is a project that I don’t think ever saw the light of day. He described that book as a superhero / adventure / mystery / horror / sword & sorcery graphic novel about a character named Janus that he created over a decade earlier.
