Love Story, Part 2

by Marv Wolfman, José Luis García Lopez, Romeo Tanghal, Carlos Garson, John Costanza, Adrienne Roy

The Teen Titans try to get back to their day to day routine but other things get in the way. Changeling visits Steve Dayton, his adopted father, whom he recently learned is dying but Dayton doesn’t want to talk about it. Cyborg tries contacting Sarah once again but he just misses seeing her. The Titans visit the construction site of their new tower.

Jericho and Kole return from their trip to visit her parents and tell the others about just how around the bend her father has become. Together, with the other Titans, Jericho and Kole return to her parents home to confront her father. They get into a fight with the creatures that Abel, Kole’s father, has mutated into forms that he believes will allow them to survive a nuclear war.

Her father tries to transform the Teen Titans (against their will) but they break out of the box he puts them in. Finally, Abel agrees to let them go. Soon after the Teen Titans leave the house, it explodes.

Thoughts

Some of the creatures that lived with Abel looked vaguely humanoid but the only one that was clearly, originally a human was the one that used to be Marilyn, Kole’s mother. The only part of her that still looked human was her face. The rest of her body looked like that of a large insect.

The ending to this story wasn’t too surprising. It felt like something out of an old horror film. The visual storytelling is good but it also felt a bit rushed.

Titans Tower

Five letters in response to New Teen Titans (1984) 7 from readers fill this month’s letters page. One of them takes issue with the fact that parental figures often seem to work their way into stories in this comic book.

Part 3 of a Day in the Life of a Cartoonist / Commuter / Executive Editor

Dick Giordano completes the three-part series with a description of what his day was like. It included numerous meetings including ones with Matt Wagner (who was working on The Demon mini-series) and Frank Miller (who was working on The Dark Knight Returns).
