Nightmare!
By Marv Wolfman, George Perez, Romeo Tanghal
Kid Flash, Frances, and Speedy let their guard down. They think that the Brotherhood of Evil is down for the count but it isn’t. The super villains catch them off guard and knock out the three heroes. Their mission is to kidnap Raven. Warp uses his abilities to track Raven and the villains leave Titans Tower.
Terra shows Changeling where she’s been living, inside a run down apartment in the Brooklyn Bridge. She also shows him her new costume. Afterwards they head for Titans Tower.
Robin and Starfire accompany Adrian Chase to the television studio where Snow Storm, Bethany Snow’s cable news program, is shot. She is scared for her life. She has changed her mind about Brother Blood, or so she says. She shows them a picture of Robin getting tortured (which looks just like a panel from New Teen Titans 22) and tells them that she is willing to provide testimony against Blood.
She also tells them that the Brotherhood of Evil are out to kidnap Raven. They aren’t convinced she is telling the truth until an assassin tries to kill her. They escort Ms. Snow home. They miss the fact that one of Brother Blood’s lieutenants is waiting for her. If there was any doubt before it is clear now that Bethany Snow is still working for Brother Blood. The only question is do Robin, Starfire, and Adrian Chase believe her. For the moment the answer seems to be that they do.
Vic goes to visit Sarah only to discover Mark Wright, who claims to be Sarah’s boyfriend. Vic had brought a present with him for Sarah. His thoughts make it clear that he had hoped that she could become more than just a friend. Seeing another guy in her life takes the wind out of Vic’s sails.
Raven has taken refuge in Saint Peter’s Cathedral. She is hiding from her pursuers and also distraught over the way she always feels like she has to repress her emotions. The Brotherhood of Evil finds her and she disappears once again. She materializes in Times Square. It is New Years Eve. The area is packed with people waiting for the ball to drop.
Starfire and Robin rush back to Titans Tower where they meet up with Kid Flash, Frances, Speedy, Terra, Changeling, and Cyborg. The Titans spot Raven on TV and head to Times Square. Phobia turns the crowd on the Titans. Raven is captured and the baddies escape more or less unscathed.
The only Titan not involved in the fight in Times Square is Donna. She is out on a date with Terry. He takes her to the Rainbow Room, a fancy restaurant at Rockefeller Plaza, in the middle of dinner he proposes to her.
Another fully loaded issue. I’m really enjoying this story. I think I’ve read parts of it before, like this issue, but I don’t think I’ve ever read the finale. Based on the cover I know that Raven goes nuclear, again, but that about all I know.

Confirmed and special for 1983...
- Frank Miller's Ronin - never read it but I probably should at least give it a try
- Green Arrow mini-series by Mike W. Barr and Trevor von Eeden - I've got it, bought it when it first came out, I've read it but it has been a long time since then. I should probably put it on my re-read list
- DC Comics Presents Annual 2 by Elliot S! Maggin, Alex Toth and Terry Austin - not exactly; there was an annual in 1983, Maggin wrote it but Keith Pollard penciled it and Mike DeCarlo and Tod Smith inked it. I've got this annual. According to my records I bought and read it in April 2012. I don't have any notes about it. I pulled out the issue and flipped through it but it didn't ring any bells. Superman teams up with Superwoman (aka Kristin Wells) in her first appearance in a comic book. She had previously appeared in Miracle Monday a prose novel which was also written by Elliot S! Maggin.
- Batman Annual by Mike W. Barr and Michael Golden - I don't have this and it wasn't an annual. If my research is correct this was published as Batman Special 1 in 1984. I have not read this book but I think I should put it on my list of books to find and read.
- Sword of the Atom mini-series by Jan Strnad and Gil Kane - I've had this mini-series along with most if not all of the other Sword of Atom comic books for quite some time. I'm pretty sure I read it but if I have it has been quite some time and I don't have any clear recollections of doing so and it predates when I was keeping track of stuff like that
- JLA/Avengers by Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, George Perez - this incarnation of this crossover event never happened but there was a version that happened two decades later. The 2003 version of JLA/Avengers was written by Kurt Busiek and drawn by George Perez. I have the trade of that mini-series. According to my records I read it in October 2012. I do not have any notes on what I thought of it. I think I enjoyed it and wouldn't mind giving it another try someday.
Brooke Shields visits DC - I recall seeing this before, probably in All-Star Squadron or some other DC Comics book back in 1983, although I didn't recall the details. According to the column, Shields was there as the spokesperson for a campaign which was designed to spread information about asthma to children. DC Comics was helping to sponsor the campaign which was run by the American Lung Association.
DC Coming Comics
- Camelot 3000 #5
- Green Lantern #163
- The House of Mystery #315
- Sgt Rock #375
- Legion of Super-Heroes #298
I have read Camelot 3000 in its entirety more than once. I have Legion of Super-Heroes #298 but I have only read the preview of Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld which was included in this issue and not the Legion story. I do not own and have not read any of the other comic books.
Titans' Tower
Responses to the Omega Men/Citadel story which began in Tales of the New Teen Titans #4, continued in New Teen Titans 22-24, and concluded in New Teen Titans Annual 1. The responses were overwhelmingly positive with a few criticisms.
