Lucy remembers. She remembers the public funeral for her father, 10 years ago. It was there that she met Dr. Star for the first time. He was nice to her but her mother dragged her away, fearful that he might inspire her in some way to follow in her father’s footsteps.
Lucy got into a heated argument about with her mother, a couple years later. She didn’t understand why they had to be so secretive about who her father was. Her mother was trying to protect her but Lucy could only see that she wanted to hide any connection they had with him.
Dr. Star returned, six years later. He gave her a key that her father gave him for safekeeping. It is the key to his secret hideout. A recording of Black Hammer greeted her. It told her to delete and destroy everything there. She refused to because she believed that he and the others were still alive.
Thoughts
I like the peak into Lucy’s past. I found the moment when the recording of her father greeted her to be very moving. The whole thing was laced with emotional tension: her mother’s anger at Dr. Star, Lucy’s anger at her mother, and her mother’s responses to Lucy’s outbursts.
