Spencer & Locke 3

Spencer and Locke 3
Jun 2017

The Last Flight of Rocketman Reynolds
by David Pepose, Jorge Santiago Jr, Jasen Smith, Colin Bell

Locke wakes up a prisoner. He is tied to a bed. A doctor who works for the mob injects him with an experimental cocktail of drugs. It seems to kill him but then he comes back to life and kills a couple of thugs who are getting ready to dispose of his body.

Locke is hallucinating since he came back to life. He thinks he’s Rocketman Reynolds, a character he used to pretend to be when he was a kid. He’s also having flashbacks to his abusive mother.

Spencer spends the whole episode trying to catch up to Locke and protect him. He saves Locke from getting shot at one point. He finally catches up to Locke who sees him as a monster, instead of as Pantharr, Rocketman Reynolds’ faithful sidekick.

The issue ends with Locke catching up to the Doctor and discovering or realizing that the man behind the mob is Augustus Locke, his father.

Thoughts

Rocketman Reynolds Reynolds is clearly a riff on Spaceman Spiff.

This issue flows very quickly. There isn’t much in the way of breaks in the action. There is some nuance. I’m not sure if it is all supposed to make sense considering that Locke is hallucinating. I’m still on board but I’m not sure at this point how I am going to feel once it is over.
