The Mutant Master
By Arnold Drake, Bruno Premiani
A new menace threatens the Earth: a trio of "mutants". One has a giant eyeball in place of a head. Another has a blank face and eyeballs on the palms of his three fingered hands. The third has no head but has a face on his hairy chest. All three are bare chested and larger than human size.
The Doom Patrol tries to greet them as fellow freaks but the mutants reject the notion of friendship. They attack the Doom Patrol and then use their powers to pull Halley's Comet out of its usual orbit and direct it towards the Earth.
The Chief is still working on curing Madame Rouge. The Brain does what he can to keep her evil. Both men are sending thoughts directly into her head. She goes a little nuts and splits into two women, one is evil and other is good. The two women fight until the evil one killed when she falls on the knife with which she sought to kill the good one. This part of the story is beyond bizarre and disturbing on at least one level. I don't care what the Chief thinks he is doing but it seems morally wrong to me for him to be trying to win over Madame Rouge without her consent in this way.
The story ends with Elasti-Girl unconscious and getting carried off by the Mutants. It looks like Robotman might have been destroyed.
General Beast Boy -- of the Ape Brigade!
By Arnold Drake, Bruno Premiani
Beast Boy's final backup solo feature. He somehow gets mixed up with Nazis and apes in South Africa. The Nazis are trying to create an army of apes. They capture Gar briefly while he is a green ape but he escapes by transforming into a butterfly. Later he leads the apes to revolt and beat up the Nazis. The story ends with him finally meeting Galtry for the first time. Gar thinks things are looking up because he now has a friend. Nothing could be further from the truth.
