Purple (Part 5 of 5)
By Brian Michael Bendis, Michael Gaydos

Jessica discovers that Scott isn’t really dead. It is Killgrave, the Purple Man, messing with her mind. He tells her about what he plans to do as they walk through Manhattan. He causes the people all around them to beat each other to death.

Jean Gray telepathically projects herself into Jessica’s mind. She gives Jessica what she needs to resist Killgrave’s commands. The Avengers show up. Killgrave orders Jessica to kill one of them. Jessica doesn’t hesitate for long before punching Killgrave with all she’s got. He looks dead when she’s done with him.

Jessica goes to see Luke. She tells him that she’s pregnant and he’s the father.

Final Thoughts

I don’t think my opinion has changed of the book. I don’t think it’s the masterpiece that some people do. I don’t think that it’s great. It was decent but that's about it.

I was curious to see how this arc ended, how it compared to the 1st season of the TV show. Both are good but that’s about as high as my praise is going to get.

This series led into The Pulse, another series starting Jessica Jones. I haven’t read the Pulse and don’t have any plans to do so. Alias was a Marvel MAX (Mature Readers Only) series. The Pulse is a mainstream Marvel series.

Bendis gives a lot of credit to Michael Gaydos and Matt Hollingsworth for the job they did with the art. It gets the job done for me but that’s about it for me. I fail to subtlety and nuance in it. My loss, I guess.

I don’t regret buying or reading this series but I’m not sure that I would recommend it to anyone on particular.
