Jessica discovers that Scott isn’t really dead. It is Killgrave, the Purple Man, messing with her mind. He tells her about what he plans to do as they walk through Manhattan. He causes the people all around them to beat each other to death.

Jean Gray telepathically projects herself into Jessica’s mind. She gives Jessica what she needs to resist Killgrave’s commands. The Avengers show up. Killgrave orders Jessica to kill one of them. Jessica doesn’t hesitate for long before punching Killgrave with all she’s got. He looks dead when she’s done with him.

Jessica meets with Killgrave. He is acts strange. He talks about them like they are characters in a comic book. It makes no sense to Jessica. She can’t tell if he has gone around the bend or is doing this to annoy her, to deny her what she wants.

Jessica leaves the Raft empty-handed. Her goal was to get him to admit to some of the murders and disappearances that have not been officially attributed to him.

Jessica continues to tell Luke her story. The Avengers caught up to her and beat her up. She was still under the control of the Purple Man at the time. She went into a coma. Jean Grey coaxed her out of the coma. Nick Fury offered her a job as the SHIELD liaison to the Avengers. She didn’t want the job.

After she recovers she goes to the Raft (a maximum security prison for super villains). Agent Quartermain goes with her. She is there to confront Killgrave, the Purple Man.

Jessica wakes up in a strange apartment, unable to remember how she got there. All she has on is her underwear. Luke Cage walks in. It is his apartment. He tells her about how she called him up, insulted him, then came crashing through his window, and puked all over herself. He took her clothes to the cleaners.

Ka-Zar wants to hire Jessica to find Zabu, in the Savage Land. Matt Murdock set up the meeting and introduced them. Jessica says no. Her response makes sense. Running off to the jungle would not make sense. It seems absurd that Ka-Zar would come to her for help with finding Zabu. Maybe if he had lost Zabu in New York City it would make sense but not the Savage Land.

She has an unfortunate encounter with Peter Parker who tries to empathize with her but she misunderstands his intentions. She thinks he is picking on her like their other classmates.

Jessica Jones went to high school with Peter Parker, had a crush on him before he was bit by a radioactive spider. She was almost hit by a truck full of radioactive material while crossing the street, like young Matthew Murdock. She had a semi-normal life as a teen until the day she lost her parents and her brother. They were all driving to Disney World when her father got distracted and drove into a military convoy carrying radioactive material. Jessica was in a coma for six months but eventually she came to, the day that Galactus first tried to consume the Earth. This installment ends with her getting adopted by a family.
