Bouncing Baby Boy
by Joe Kelly, Doug Mahnke, Tom Nguyen, David Baron, Ken Lopez, Dan Raspler
Plastic Man asks Batman to help him track down Luke McDunnagh, a boy who has, despite being only 10 years old, joined a gang of criminals. The two superheroes begin their search with a visit to Angel McDunnagh, the boy’s mother. Batman quickly figures out that Plastic Man is the boy’s father.
Plas is too chicken to confront his son so Batman does the job for him. Plastic Man tags along with the Dark Knight, disguised as a piece of Batman’s uniform.
This was an okay story. I don’t know if Luke plays a significant part in any future comic books. Plastic Man’s reticence to talk to his son, whom he hasn’t seen in years, was disappointing.
This is by far the weakest of the first five issues of this run. It feels a bit like it might be a preface to a longer story but if it is then I don’t think that story immediately follows this one.
Notes
This is the first appearance of Luke McDunnagh, aka Luke O’Brian. This is the first and only appearance of Angel McDunnagh.
