05/26/21 - Pages 22-23 - Map Quest
This is a map of the world with the locations of 45 notable places spread across all 7 continents
05/27/21 - Pages 24-25 - Welcome to the Multiverse: Wait, There’s More Than One Earth?
This chart only mentions the DC multiverse. There is no mention of the alternate earths of Marvel Comics
05/28/21 - Pages 26-27 - A History of Heroic Proportions
This chart shows the chronological development of the comic book industry, mostly in terms of when comic book publishers came into being and vanished from the scene. Not all publishers are on this chart. The missing publishers include First, Eclipse, and Pacific. There are some events mentioned on this chart when one company acquired another but some of them are just represented by lines connecting one publisher to another. This chart seems like a good start but could stand to be expanded.
05/29/21 - Pages 28-29 - Power Publishers
This chart shows how much of the market (in 2011) each of the top 25 publishers accounted for. My guess is that they are ranked by $ rather than units sold but it isn’t clear. DC and Marvel together account for about 78% of the market and are the only two publishers who account for more more than 5% of the market on their own. Image, IDW, Dark Horse, Dynamite, and Boom are the only other publishers who account for more than 1% of the market individually
This is interesting but where do the numbers come from? How reliable are they?
05/30/21 - Pages 30-31 - Take Shape: Evolution of Superman’s Logo
05/31/21 - Pages 32-33 - Shell Power: Pizzas of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
This pizzas in this chart are, to put it mildly, disgusting.
06/01/21 - Page 34 - The Batman Theme Quantified
There are just two words in the theme song to the 1960s Batman TV show. This graph doesn’t include numbers but it does purport to break down the song by the number of times each word was used.
06/02/21 - Page 35 - The Joker’s Favorite Questions for Batman
Why so serious? Where does he get those wonderful toys? One of these is not a question that the Joker asked Batman but is a question he asked about Batman. This chart is shaped like Batman’s head. I do wonder how accurate this chart is.
06/03/21 - Pages 36-37 - The Colors of Money: Following Fictional Fortunes
This chart tracks the fortunes of Bruce Wayne, Richie Rich, Tony Stark, Lex Luthor, Scrooge McDuck, Adrian Veidt, and Flintheart Glomgold based on information published in Fortune magazine from 2005 to 2012.
06/04/21 - Pages 38-39 - Team Colors
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Lantern Power Rings, Voltron, The Metal Men The Beagle Boys, The Fantastic Four, The Avengers are each represented by color bars with each color assigned to a member of the team. Some these colors make sense but others do not. The only text on these pages are title for the chart and the team names.
